Los científicos desvelan los secretos del gen opium poppy

Científicos de la Universidad de Calgary announced que han abrió una de los secretos genéticos de la opium poppy. Ciencias biológicas profesor Peter Facchini dijo que han dado con los genes únicos que permiten la adormidera para que la codeína y la morfina.

"Las enzimas codificadas por estos dos genes han eludido a los bioquímicos planta de medio siglo," Prof. Facchini, dijo en una entrevista.
"En conclusión, no sólo de las enzimas, sino también los genes, hemos hecho un gran paso adelante. Es equivalente a encontrar un gen implicado en el cáncer u otros trastornos genéticos. "
El científico de 46 años de edad, nacido en Toronto ha estado investigando la adormidera para cerca de dos décadas y, con la ayuda del investigador Jillian Hagel, ha estado tratando de descubrir los secretos de genes de dos años.
Hagel, que a su escaneado casi 23.000 genes diferentes en una diapositiva pequeña, finalmente decodificado el gen llamado codeína / S /-dementhylase que produce la enzima que convierte la planta de codeína en morfina.

didnt they had @ october or near therethe same news again on azarius? i am sure i have seen this 2 times already @ the azarius news :P anyway it would be rly pity that they bann poppys 2.....banning a drug plant is no solution 4 reducing the number of addicts coz nearly every drug can be made synthetically.....banning the plant just supoorts the blackmarket that makes the drug.......

Fucked up! now they can begin breeding papavers without the genes and destoy the original, so the heroin "industry" is fucked...and ofcourse keep the secret for themselves!

With this knowledge scientists can create poppys that does not contain morphin or codein anymore , they can now wipe it out from the planet. Thats got be a hard time...
