Protest

This Saturday the Save The Shroom protest took place at the Dam square in Amsterdam. Several hundred shroom enthusiasts from all over the Netherlands gathered to protest against the ill-advised and weakly reasoned ban on the shroom. The atmosphere was very relaxed, with colourful banners and mushrooms everywhere.

Amongst the speakers were poet Simon Vinkenoog, author Hans Plomp, August de Loor (Adviesburo Drugs), Freek Polak (psychiatrist, organizer Stichting Drugsbeleid) and Laurens Ivens (SP Amsterdam), who spoke strongly about the political agenda of Minister Ab Klink.

The Save The Shroom action got a lot of media attention. both preceding and during the protest. For weeks activists could be heard on the radio, seen on TV, and newspapers reported on the Free Spore Print action, the 3-day plan of Job Cohen, and of course the protest gathering itself. Because of this the pro-shroom point of view was heard by many people in the Netherlands and abroad.

So all in all the protest was very successful! Now it's up to the Dutch government to take the advice of the experts seriously.

Yea nice. It would be really a shame to ban mushrooms just cause of some ppls who dont inform themselves before buying / eating em. There are always sorry idiots but the same you can say with every other thing like alcohol, sport (steroids) etc.

IMO there should be just an age restriction set to 18 for example and give ppls good information when selling the mushrooms to them. Its more than enough, the 3 day plan seems to be fine too.

well, hope the dutch government boys don't make fools of themselves again (yohimbe prohibition). as a german guy I've always been proud of my "neighbours" to be so tolerant/easy going. shrooms are not that bad. the real psychonaut knows how to handle them! the shroom passport might have worked as well.

I really hope the goverment don"t ban mushrooms like they have in london.I truly believe mushrooms enhance the mind and provide people with a great experience.

I hope the dutch government do not change a thing. if someone is silly enough to do a new drug without learning about it first then what they get is what they deserve. it would be unfair to the poeple of amsterdam and i believe it would also resort in a small drop in tourism. please use shrooms with responsibility or you end up ruining it for the rest of us.

i dont think the dutch government are as stupid as ours. mushrooms in england are on the same level as heroin(class a) now that is bullshit if the dutch do ban shrooms its will be a stepping stone to outlawing cannabis i think anyway dont let them do it protest send letters do anything in your power to keep your rights
